Sentry Shower Filter$99.00 USDCrystal Quest Shower FilterFrom $40.95 USDGoodFor 8-Stage Shower FilterFrom $49.00 USD
Fit and connectionSentry says the system fits a standard ½-inch shower arm pipe and needs about 5 in wide × 12 in tall of space around it.
Rated for 3,000 gallons at 1.5 gallons per minute (Sentry).
Crystal Quest says the filter connects to any standard shower arm with ½-inch NPT threading and takes a standard shower head.
Assembled with its head it measures 8 × 3 in; the housing alone is about 5.1 × 2.9 in. Flow rate 2 gpm.
Operating pressure: 30 to 60 psi. Water temperature: 40 to 110°F.
Choose 'With Shower Head' to include a shower head, or 'Without Shower Head' to use your own.
Not intended for outdoor use (Crystal Quest).
GoodFor says the filter fits all standard ½-inch threaded shower arms and works with fixed, handheld and rain shower heads.
It installs between the shower arm and your existing shower head, so you keep the head you have.
What is includedSentry hasn't shared a full list of box contents with us yet. Contact us and we'll confirm what's in the box before you order. The filter housing with the cartridge, a spare O-ring and a flow-restricting gasket already inside, plus plumber's tape (Crystal Quest).
Choose 'With Shower Head' to add a shower head.
Available as a Single or a 2, 3 or 4 Pack. GoodFor hasn't confirmed to us exactly what each multi-pack contains, so contact us before choosing one.
Filtration detailsSentry H2O hasn't shared model-specific test results with us, so we don't list filtration claims for this model. Its replacement cartridge (CQE-RC-04045) was tested by QFT Laboratory to NSF/ANSI 177 for chlorine reduction in 2020 (report 20-730): about 72 to 89 percent reduction at 1.5 gallons per minute through 500 gallons of room-temperature test water. This is a test report, not a product certification.
Not designed to treat hardness (it is not a water softener), bacteria and viruses, fluoride, nitrate or total dissolved solids. Use only on microbiologically safe water.
GoodFor hasn't shared model-specific test results with us, so we don't list filtration claims for this model.
GoodFor states that this filter does not reduce chloramine, does not soften hard water, and isn't certified to remove PFAS or lead. It's a point-of-use shower filter, not a whole-home system.
Media: eight layers, including KDF55, activated carbon and calcium sulfite (GoodFor).
Installation and careSentry says it installs in minutes, with no tools and no plumber. The unit is large and heavy when full of water, so check you have about 5 × 12 in of space. Contact us and we'll send Sentry's installation instructions.Crystal Quest says installation is done by hand, with no tools: wrap 2 to 3 layers of the included plumber's tape clockwise around the shower arm threads, then tighten hand-tight plus a quarter turn.
After installing a new cartridge, run hot water through the filter for 2 to 3 minutes to flush loose media fines, which are normal in a new cartridge. More than one flush may be needed. Let the water cool before you step in.
At each cartridge change, check that both housing O-rings sit in their grooves and coat them lightly with a non-petroleum oil (not coconut oil).
Between changes, you can reverse the cartridge in the housing to back-flush the media.
Protect the filter from freezing and direct sunlight.
Tool-free, in under 5 minutes (GoodFor): set the gasket inside the top of the filter, wrap a few layers of thread tape around the shower arm, screw on the filter, then reattach your shower head.
Replacement guidanceSentry recommends replacing the filter once a year for one 10-minute shower a day, or every 6 months for two or more showers a day. The matching part is the Sentry Shower Replacement Filter (CP-SFR).Crystal Quest recommends a new cartridge every 6 to 12 months, or sooner if water flow drops or a chlorine smell returns. Actual life depends on feed water quality, system configuration and usage. In hard-water areas, plan on the shorter end of the range.
The matching part is the Crystal Quest Shower Filter Replacement Cartridge (CQE-RC-04045).
GoodFor recommends a new cartridge every 90 days for best performance. Depending on your water and use, a cartridge lasts 3 to 6 months; reduced flow or a returning chlorine smell is the sign.
The matching part is GoodFor Shower Filter Replacement Cartridges.

Good to know

Will it fit my shower? Show answer

It depends on your shower connection and the filter model. All three filters fit a standard ½-inch shower arm, which GoodFor says covers the vast majority of US showers. Sentry is the largest and needs about 5 × 12 in of space. Check each product's compatibility details before ordering, and if you're unsure, contact us with your shower setup so we can help you check.

Is installation included? Show answer

No installation service is included. You install the filter yourself, following the brand's instructions. The Crystal Quest and GoodFor filters fit between the shower arm and shower head. See Installation & care, or contact us and we'll send the brand's instructions before you order.

Will it affect water pressure? Show answer

Crystal Quest rates its shower filter for 30 to 60 psi with a 2 gpm flow rate, and says a drop in flow is a sign the cartridge needs replacing. Sentry and GoodFor haven't shared flow or pressure figures with us, so please check the model's specifications or contact us about your setup before ordering.

Can I use it in a rented home? Show answer

The Crystal Quest and GoodFor filters screw on between the shower arm and the shower head. Rental arrangements differ, so check your lease or ask your landlord if you're unsure. We can't confirm suitability for every property.
