How to install an inline shower filter

No plumber needed. Most inline filters take about ten minutes.

You will need

The filter, plumber's (PTFE) tape and a cloth. Some filters include tape and washers; check the box.

Steps

  1. Unscrew your shower head from the shower arm. Use a cloth to protect the finish if it is tight.
  2. Clean the arm threads and wrap them clockwise with two or three turns of tape.
  3. Screw the filter onto the arm, hand-tight. Check the washer or O-ring is seated.
  4. Screw your shower head onto the filter outlet, hand-tight.
  5. Run the water and check for drips. Tighten a little if needed.

Flush first

Crystal Quest says to run hot water through a new cartridge for 2 to 3 minutes to flush loose media fines, and to let the water cool before stepping in. We recommend a first flush for any new filter.

Care

Follow the brand's guidance on the product page. Crystal Quest advises checking the O-rings at each cartridge change and keeping the filter away from freezing and direct sunlight.
